Since 2006, Minnesota Center for Photography has hosted the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Photographers Program. The McKnight Foundation, based in Minneapolis, provides support to individual artists working in numerous creative media as part of its overall interest in the health of communities in the state (arts funding represents only about a tenth of the foundation's giving). The Artist Fellowships are $25,000 awards given each year to mid-career artists residing in Minnesota. The photography program provides this support to four artists each year; awards are announced in June. Fellows exhibit their work at MCP following the conclusion of their Fellowship years.
